For the fight against terrorism to be successful, coordination between the Local Forces (made up of former combatants), the ‘Naparamas’ and the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS) is essential, Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo told residents of Montepuez district on Monday (09-01).
Valige Tauabo explained to the residents of Namoro, Nairoto Sede and Nacololo that the FDS are the ones who must coordinate all actions aimed at protecting the population against terrorist actions and other evils. Therefore, the activities of the Local Forces and the Namparama must be made known to the FDS, he stressed.
“In this work of defending the land and populations from terrorism, the FDS coordinates all actions for the protection of our communities,” the Governor said.
In view of the ongoing rainy season, Governor Tauabo encouraged the population to remain committed to preparing areas for cultivation and sowing enough seed to guarantee food supply and earn income.
To avoid waterborne diseases, he also appealed to communities to boil water before drinking and not to allow children to play in ponds where they might contract diseases.
The three communities asked for the allocation of seeds and poison to combat the plague of rats destroying seed already sown.
The Provincial Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Daúdo Ussuhale, who accompanied the governor on his visit, said that he would urgently dispatch a technical team to identify the most effective way to combat the rodent pest.
In all the villages he visited, Governor Tauabo reiterated the need to heighten vigilance against any possible infiltration by strangers.
