Thirteen communities residing within the Quirimbas National Park area have received monetary amounts arising from revenue collected in the practice of Ecotourism and in the issuing of special licences.
The handover ceremony, presided over by the Governor of the Province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, took place in Quissanga on Tuesday, August 8.
The 13 communities are from the districts of Macomia, Montepuez, Meluco, Ancuabe, Quissanga and Metuge, and benefited from a total of 1,035,858 meticais, an amount that will be used for development activities in the respective communities.
The delivery of monetary amounts to the communities of the Quirimbas National Park aims to encourage them in their efforts in the preservation of natural resources.
Valige Tauabo also delivered 24 fishing kits to fishermen in Quissanga, consisting of five nets, 10 rolls of rope, 650 floats, signalling buoys and needles, among other items.
In Quissanga, within the scope of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove (26th of July), Tauabo oversaw the planting of 200 mangrove seedlings on Tandanhangue Beach.
The mangrove seedlings were planted within the framework of the National Program for the Restoration of the Mangrove Ecosystem, whose objective is to mobilise communities to engage in the restoration of mangroves, which support sustainable coastal and marine ecosystems.
