The Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) party announced this Tuesday (06-05) new measures to combat terrorism and promote the stabilization of the province of Cabo Delgado. Zumbo FM reports.
During a press conference aimed at taking stock of the activities carried out over the last four days, member of the Frelimo Political Commission and head of the Central Brigade for Assistance to the Province of Cabo Delgado, Amélia Muendane, presented a set of actions and strategies foreseen in the government’s five-year program and in the Economic and Social Plan (PESOE), with a focus on the reconstruction and development of the province.
Muendane said that the party was preparing to combat the terrorism ravaging the province.
“The Frelimo government submitted to the National Assembly for approval the government’s five-year program, the national development strategy for the next 20 years, the economic and social plan, and the budget,” Muendane explained.
“Based on the electoral manifesto, these instruments were drawn up to present the challenges facing Mozambique, especially in the province of Cabo Delgado. The awareness of the need for investment in infrastructure is evident in the government’s five-year program and in the economic and social plan,” she said.
“At this time, one of the government’s main priorities is to ensure that there is a good connection between the north and south, via National Highway Number One (N1), which is currently undergoing rehabilitation, so that access between the north and south can be re-established,” added Muendane.
“There is also a prospect of political stability in Cabo Delgado, due to terrorism, and the force is being prepared to ensure greater strengthening of the political situation in Cabo Delgado, and that progress can be made towards the rehabilitation of infrastructure and the implementation of strategic infrastructure for the well-being of the population,” she said.
The official also highlighted the concerns of the population, which continues to face serious difficulties due to the instability generated by terrorism, directly affecting the social and economic life of the region.
“In terms of findings, the concerns expressed by the population revolve around the political situation in the province, the deterioration of the general health of the population due to terrorism, the extreme events that have occurred in the province, which also contribute greatly to the weakening of the province’s economic fabric, the issue of infrastructure, especially the highways that impede the movement of people and goods throughout the province, the economic blackmail that they have suffered along the corridors by criminals, so much so that this has weakened the economic will of our population to contribute to development,” Muendane reported.
In addition, Amélia Muendane revealed that, during the visits and meetings with various social actors, the Central Brigade obtained recommendations that aim to consolidate the political support of the population and deepen the dialogue with the communities.
“We visited the base, held meetings with the different social actors and made key recommendations to ensure the success of our party in its relationship with our population. We publicized the key activities that were carried out during the last 100 days by our government, while at the same time interacting with the population around the consensus or political commitment signed between the different parties and within the scope of the dialogue that has been carried out under the guidance of the President of the Republic,” she said.
