Valige Tauabo, Governor of the Province of Cabo Delgado, on Friday (17-02) laid the first stone of a passenger bus terminal and a centre for the elderly in the district of Chiure.
The construction of the bus terminal will proceed in two phases, the first of which will consist of the construction of the perimeter wall, porch, toilets and interior division for the movement of people, cargo vehicles, waiting places, boarding and disembarkation of passengers.
Governor Tauabo said that the terminal was important for passengers and carriers and would, in addition to car parking, also facilitate the provision of basic services such as a police station, medical centre, ATM, warehousing and convenience stores.
The terminal is being built in a partnership between the Provincial Executive Council and the private sector, with a budget estimated at just over 9.2 million meticais, the governor said.
Meanwhile, the Community Centre for the Elderly and Vulnerable will consist of dormitories, a meeting room and leisure spaces to accommodate the target group.
Speaking at the Open Centre, the chief of the provincial executive said he hoped the initiative would encourage assistance and social protection for the most vulnerable people, families and social groups.
Occupational therapy activities and meetings for the exchange of generational experiences will be developed at the centre, the elders transmitting social values to the younger ones, providing an environment of harmony between the different social strata.
Population data indicate that Chiúre is the most populous district in Cabo Delgado, for which reason the provincial executive is prioritising the social assistance of people in vulnerable situations there.
