Authorities in Mueda district in Cabo Delgado are demanding tighter control of migratory movement at Mozambique’s Negomano border post with Tanzania, in order to guarantee security in the province, Rádio Moçambique reports.
The challenge was launched by Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado, António Supeia, during the swearing in of new Mueda istrict administrator Patrício Mavile, in the city of Pemba this Tuesday.
Supeia also highlighted cross-border trade between the two countries as an activity deserving the authorities’ attention.
“It is important to strengthen the control of cross-border trade and migratory movement at crossing points. As we know, the district of Mueda separates our province from the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Rovuma river, hence the need to maintain our presence and control there,” he said.
With Mueda district receiving large numbers of people displaced by terrorism from the entire northern part of the province, the Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado said it was imperative that support for those in need continued, alongside vigilance against terrorist infiltration in the communities.
