Mozambique: World Bank approves $201M to strengthen health system

The Plan and Budget of the Cabo Delgado Provincial Decentralised Governance Bodies 2023 was approved last week at the XII Ordinary Session of the Provincial Executive Council, held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022,
The approved Plan expects to collect an amount of 23.8 million meticais in 2023, against 23.5 million meticais in the current year, a growth of 2%.
The Education sector is expected to enrol 568,629 students of all levels of education on day and night courses, and to hire 686 teachers for all levels of education.
In Health, it plans to eliminate waterborne diseases in the province (cholera) and control diarrhoea and malaria.
In Culture, it is planned to train 210 professionals and art makers in the field of marketing and business management of cultural goods, and to mount 18 artistic-cultural exhibitions and a campaign to promote the habit of reading in schools.
The Youth, Employment and Sports Sector will see sports tournaments aimed at stimulating mass participation in sports, while 22,204 jobs in the various sectors are to be created.
In Industry, strengthening the development of the manufacturing industry is foreseen, with a greater focus on micro, small and medium companies (MSMEs).
In Transport, port handling is expected to capitalise on the import and export of various goods through the Port of Pemba.
In Fisheries, it is expected to register fishery production of 34,559 tons in 2023.
In the Infrastructure sector, it is planned to build 75 classrooms, ten for secondary and 65 for primary education, plus three health posts in the resettlement villages, and 175 water sources.
The XII Ordinary Session of the CEP [Provincial Executive Council] also considered the National Program for Corporate Development and the revised project for the construction of a maritime dock in Metuge district.
