Business people from China and Mozambique have gathered in Maputo to boost bilateral trade cooperation, particularly in engineering, construction and agriculture projects, the Xinhua news agency reported.
The Chinese delegation, headed by the deputy governor of Anhui Province, Zhou Xi’an, travelled to Maputo as part of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to strengthen relations in various sectors of economic activity as well as with the local government.
On receiving the delegation, the Minister of Transport and Communications Carlos Mesquita said that from 2013 to 2018, 148 projects were approved with Chinese direct investment estimated at US$751 million, making China the largest investor and economic partner of Mozambique.
Mesquita also told members of the delegation that his government is carrying out legislative reforms to improve the business environment, reducing bureaucracy and simplifying procedures.
“The investment made by companies from China in Mozambique in the last five years has allowed the creation of 20 thousand jobs,” Mesquita said, according to the news agency.
