At least 13 people who were injured in a bus accident on Tuesday in the Muda area of central Mozambique are still in hospital, nine of them in serious condition, a police source told Lusa in a news briefing.
The ‘Maning Nice’ bus travelling the Inchope-Beira route with 45 passengers on board left the road and overturned on Tuesday in Muda, Sofala province, killing two and leaving 10 with serious and 34 with light injureies, Sofala police command spokesman Sididi Paulo reported.
“A woman died at the scene of the crash, but the death toll increased with the death of a 3-month-old baby who had been taken to Beira hospital with serious injuries. Nine seriously injured people remain hospitalized there,” Paulo said, blaming excessive speed and reckless overtaking for the accident.
Four other people, including the driver and the conductor, remain under medical care at the local health center.
“Of the 34 passengers that had been taken to the local health centre, 30 were treated and continued their journey, but four remain under medical care,” Paulo said , appealing to motorists to respect traffic rules and drive carefully.
