Individuals so far unidentified raided a filling station in Nhamatanda district, Sofala province, at dawn on Tuesday, stealing takings of just over 80,000 meticais (US$1,294.00).
According to witnesses, the robbery occurred around two in the morning, when a group of six individuals armed with machetes and knives burst into the fuel station in the Monte Siluvo area on National Road Number One.
According to an agent of private security company Sena Segurança who witnessed the raid, the gang assaulted a security guard, took his gun, and stole the money from the cashier.
“I was sitting, he (the other security guard) was sleeping. Then, I heard a shout from my colleague. When I approached the individuals, they pointed a knife at me. I drew my gun, but it did not work. When they noticed that, they started to hit my colleague on the head, then they went and took the money from the girl who works as cashier,” the security guard said. He ended up being detained by the police on suspicion of colluding in the crime.
Meanwhile, the worker from whom the criminals seized the money was dragged into the bush, where they tried to rape her, she told ‘O País’.
“After stealing the money, they took me by the hand and started running with me. First, we arrived at a house and he said that we cannot stop there, so we left, and we had to stop in the woods. It was there where one of the criminals said he wanted to have sex with me, but I replied that I was sick,” the still panic-stricken young woman related.
The security guard who was assaulted is receiving medical care at Inchope, but is expected to be transferred to a referral health facility.
