Reuters, the UK-headquartered news agency, has formally apologised to the Mozambican government for having reported as fact the alleged resignation of Mozambique’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane.
The apology was delivered to the Presidency of the Republic of Mozambique in a statement seen by Folha de Maputo.
The British agency acknowledges that the report was based on information circulating on social networks and published without contacting the appropriate authorities for confirmation.
The apology is signed by Reuters Africa bureau chief Edward Cropley.
