A team of journalists and another composed of Sofala government personnel has been scouring the forests of Gorongosa since Wednesday morning for the alleged mass grave that is featuring in international news.
The journalists participating are from Manica and Sofala provinces. Some of them, reports Folha de Maputo, have written articles citing peasants in Canda, Gorongosa district, Sofala province, reporting the existence of a mass grave containing about 100 corpses.
According to a source from the provincial government of Sofala, also cited by Folha, the journalists who produced the articles have a leading role in indicating the reported location of the mass grave and the “military presence” preventing access to it .
“I think that after all that has been said, let’s all go and establish the facts. News like this shocks the country,” said the source.
Folha de Maputo has also sent its Beira-based reporter on location to establish the impact of a news story that is shocking the world.
