International mediators in the dialogue between the Government of Mozambique and Renamo party, announced the suspension of their works until August 8 2016, a period during which they call for reflection among the Mozambican parties.
One of the first points that international mediation can not find a “middle ground” is the imposition of Afonso Dhlakama’s Renamo party to rule still on this mandate ending in 2019, the six provinces, where it says to have won the 2014 general elections, presidential, legislative and for the provincial assemblies.
According to the coordinator of the team of mediators, the Italian Mario Raffaelli, the lack of understanding between the two parties is among one of the reasons for the 10-day suspension.
“We urge the two to stay seriously considering proposals so that when we return we find something concrete. We want to make an appeal to the parties that the first major concern of the Mozambican people is peace” said Mario Raffaelli.
With this announcement by the international mediators, it is not known if the joint committee for dialogue will keep its meetings. The fact is, the longer it takes, the heavier the burden for the people of Mozambique.
