Mozambique: Matola toll booth becomes "makeshift Chapa terminal" - FM
Public prosecutor Marcelino Vilanculos was shot dead by unknown assailants late last night in front of his home in Matola’s Malhampsene neighbourhood, Maputo province.
The incident was confirmed to Mozambique newspaper O Pais by the commander of the Maputo police who was at the scene with the director of the Criminal Investigation Police (PIC), but no further details have been disclosed as yet.
Among others cases, Marcelino Vilanculos was handling the abduction process involving Danish Satar, nephew of Nini Star.
In a similar incident, Renamo politician and Defence and Security Council member José Manuel was shot dead in Beira on Saturday 9 in a taxi on his way home from the airport.
Police have opened an investigation, but so far have firm clues about the perpetrators.
Also unsolved is the attack on Renamo secretary-general Manuel Bissopo on January 20, whose vehicle came under fire on a public road. His aide died in the attack.
