NGO demands 'effective investigation' into post-election killings in Mozambique
The administrator of Gorongosa, Manuel Jamaca, denied this Friday information that was put to circulate following a reports by the Portuguese press, accounting of district farmers discovering a mass grave of 120 bodies, reports online news website Folha de Maputo.
The same news that was featured in the Portuguese press (online newspapers, radio and television) stated that in the Gorongosa district in the administrative post of Nhamazi-Canda, specifically in Muera of town which is about 76km distant from the village office, had been found about 120 (one hundred and twenty) dead bodies in a mass grave.
“The district government of Gorongosa, has conducted work on the ground through specific teams and contacts with the local leaders and the community to determine the veracity of the report. The information is false,” reads the statement said Gorongosa administrator, received by Folha de Maputo.
“The mentors of this information carry with them tendencies to denigrate the images of the district and of the country in general, to sow a terrorist image and confuse the national and international community about the Order, Public Safety and Tranquility that is being experienced in the country. Therefore we reaffirm that the information is false. This information is likewise intended to deeply attack the Moral and Humanitarian Values enshrined in our Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique. We vehemently repudiate this attitude of disinformation,” concludes the statement
Note that the image that was used as news of support was that “A Philippines Mass Grave.”
