The meeting of the National Council of Defense and Security has just finished in Maputo, convened by Nyusi to discuss the civil war spectrum that threatens the country, reports Canalmoz. The council had not met for a long time and, according to the same source, was “almost that was never called during the Guebuza consulate”.
The Council decided to create safety conditions for the meeting with the leader of Renamo, in order to put an end to confrontation between government troops and the men of Renamo and “definitely consolidate the peace environment” reads the statement released by the Presidency of the Republic.
The issue of safety is central to Renamo that has more than enough reason to doubt of the Government’s intentions, if one takes into account that twice in September last year, the same government attempted to assassinate Afonso Dhlakama and in January this year its General Secretary Manuel Bissopo also escaped an assassination attempt. The trust between the parties is largely deteriorated.
