Breaking: Member of Renamo team for peace talks Jeremias Pondeca murdered in Maputo – Mozambique

Jeremias Pondeca, former member of parliament and a member of the Renamo delegation in the political dialogue team, was killed yesterday by unknown individuals in the area of Costa do Sol neighbourhood in Maputo. At the time, the politician was doing his usual morning exercise. José Manteigas, Renamo MP, explains what happened.
“What happened is that at around mid-morning [on Saturday], a while after Jeremias Pondeca had gone to the area of Costa do Sol to do gymnastics, the family began to worry because he was not coming back. And the family went on without information until this morning [Sunday, October 9 2016]. It was then that they called me and together we went to the Triunfo neighbourhood police station. When we got there we learnt that the police had removed the lifeless body, a victim of gunshots, and two bullets hit the head and two in the abdomen. Because it was a person apparently unknown, the police took the body to the morgue of the Central Hospital of Maputo. There it was proved that, in fact, our colleague Pondeca lost his life,” said Manteigas.
As for the police, it confirms the fact and promises to soon speak about it.
