Breaking: Man shot to death in central Maputo – report

A man was murdered this evening by unidentified individuals in the city of Maputo. The crime, according to witnesses, took place not far from the PRM City Command and even closer to the 1º de Maio Industrial School, at around 6.10 p.m..

Witnesses say that when the victim’s car arrived on 24 Julho Avenue, where there was a traffic jam, it stopped. Then, a vehicle from behind moved over to its side and then its occupants opened fire.

With the victim injured and apparently unconscious, the car continued moving uncontrolled until it hit the wall of the Escola Industrial 1º de Maio.

The perpetrators chased the victim and, with the car immobilised by the wall, they fired again, with one of the bullets hitting a person at the bus stop and another injuring a shoemaker who worked nearby.

The police arrived at the scene about 40 minutes after the incident and removed the body.

Um homem foi assassinado, esta noite, por desconhecidos, na cidade de Maputo. O crime, segundo testemunhas, deu-se perto do Comando da Cidade da PRM e mais perto ainda da Escola industrial 1º de Maio, por volta das 18h10.

Testemunhas contam que o carro da vítima, quando chegou a 24 de Julho, onde havia um engarrafamento, parou. Nisso, uma viatura que vinha de trás encostou e, de seguida, os ocupantes descarregaram tiros.

Lesado e aparentemente inconsciente, o carro da vítima prosseguiu sem controlo até embater no muro da Escola Industrial 1º de Maio.

Os autores do disparo perseguiram a vítima e, com o carro imobilizado pelo muro, voltaram a disparar, tendo uma das balas atingido uma pessoa na paragem e um sapateiro que ali perto trabalhava.

A PRM chegou ao local há mais ou menos 40 minutos depois do sucedido e tratou de remover o corpo.
