The attackers, armed with firearms and machetes, burned down five houses during the action, and fleed the village afterwards, the same sources reported.
Wednesday’s attack was the first in Mwangaza, which is near the village of Undjama, which had already been targeted by armed men.
The village attacked on Wednesday is located about 25 kilometers from the hometown of Mocímboa da Praia district, one of four in the province of Cabo Delgado, which have been plagued by actions of armed groups since October last year.
Dozens of people have died as a result of the attacks, which have caused the displacement of people from their villages.
More than 100 people are being tried in Cabo Delgado following the attacks, which hit areas near the gas fields that will see huge investments from multinational oil companies in the coming years.
On Wednesday, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said in parliament that the Defense and Security Forces are “weakening” the action of the “evildoers” who work in the four provinces of Cabo Delgado.
