Mozambique: 825 people died in road accidents from January to May
Stv’s commentator, Ericino de Salema, has just been found unconscious on Maputo Ring Road, after being surprised by two men who followed him to his car today, at lunchtime, according to a guard who spoke anonymously, at the place of the abduction.
When De Salema was inside his car, without noticing that he was being followed, two men intercepted him and, without reacting, he handed himself in to the kidnappers. At that moment, the lawyer and Stv’s commentator was taken into a grey vehicle, with a spare tyre on the back and no registration plate, according to our source.
De Salema’s driver, with whom he was at the time of the kidnapping, was taken to the 2nd PRM Station, located about 400 metres from the abduction site, in the Polana Cimento neighbourhood, near two Ministries: Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Education and Human Development.
At this moment, the commentator has just arrived at the Private Hospital of Maputo, injured.
Ericino de Salema was rescued by locals, in Mutanhane, in the area of Marracuene. Children returning from school noticed, when they passed by, that three armed men were beating the commentator. So the children went on to tell a gentleman they met later. It was this same gentleman who went to ask for help from another resident of Mutanhane, and together they took the wounded victim, who was lying down in a bush, to the Private Hospital of Maputo, in an open van. The victim “could not stand anything”[was in great pain]. He was bound, and they struck him with a weapon from the city to the place where he was abandoned. According to the resident who spoke anonymously, the three men tried to break De Salema’s legs with an iron.
Within moments, the PRM Command, in the city of Maputo, will speak to the press about the abduction.
