Breaking: Electric substation explodes knocking out power to part of downtown Maputo

A part of downtown of Maputo is, since mid-morning, without electricity due to the damage registered in one of the Transformation Substations (Posto Transformador) installed next to the building where the Sociedade do Notícias works.
The malfunction occurred after a series of explosions in the said equipment. In order to repair it, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) had to isolate the area’s power supply circuit, which led to some points in this part of the capital to run out of electricity.
Several institutions located near the Notícias block are using generators to keep their operations going.
At this time, EDM technicians are working to repair the damage.
EDM’s director in Maputo city Alberto Banze told Noticias that the power supply will be restored later this afternoon.
