The breakdown of two vessels belonging to the Maritime Transport Institute (INTRANSMAR) in Cabo Delgado is constraining the control and inspection of maritime activities in the province.
This situation was caused by Cyclone Chido, as it made landfall in the province in December of last year, according to INTRANSMAR’s provincial delegate, Tauacale Avelino.
Avelino explained that INTRANSMAR currently has support from the Navy and the Coastal, Lake and River Police to ensure maritime inspection, as part of existing arrangements between the institutions.
“When we have a search situation, they contribute fuel to enable us to use these resources,” he said.
