The Brazilian government said on Thursday that it is “ready to cooperate” with the Mozambican forces combatting terrorism in the province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country.
The statement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil on the social network Twitter, in posts sharing photographs of a meeting between the head of Brazilian diplomacy, Carlos França, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, Verónica Macamo, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“Mozambique is one of Brazil’s main technical cooperation partners. The ministers talked about trade and investment, cooperation in health and coordination in multilateral bodies,” the Twitter post added.
“Symbol of this beneficial relationship for our peoples was the Brazilian donation of €100,000 to the World Food Program in Mozambique last June, with the objective of strengthening food security in the province of Cabo Delgado,” concluded the Brazilian executive, which is headed by Jair Bolsonaro.
Although Jair Bolsonaro’s entourage has already returned to Brazil after participating in the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations, Minister Carlos França will remain in U.S. until this Friday, holding meetings with government officials from Peru, with whom he discussed cooperation in combating the pandemic, including local production of vaccines and vaccination campaigns in the Amazon, and with Costa Rica, which resulted in a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for political consultations.
Carlos França kept to his agenda in New York despite having been in contact with the Brazilian health minister, Marcelo Queiroga, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, before the presidential delegation returned to Brazil. Queiroga did not travel and is currently in isolation in New York.
Jair Bolsonaro and the approximately 50 people who were in his entourage, are now quarantined in Brazil.
