Brazil’s ambassador to Mozambique, Rodrigo Soares, on Tuesday expressed his country’s desire to increase bilateral cooperation in the area of defence and peacekeeping, highlighting the historic ties between the two countries.
“Brazil is ready to collaborate with Mozambique in the area of defence and peacekeeping,” Ambassador Soares told journalists on the sidelines of the Strategic Seminar in the Defence Area seminar, which brought together military experts from both countries in Matola municipality, Maputo.
Brazil, he continued, would respond positively to any request from the Mozambican authorities to increase cooperation in the area of defence.
“We have Brazilian instructors here, making a contribution to the training of Mozambican military cadres in the Air Force, Navy and Army,” the Brazilian ambassador added.
But Soares stressed that the priority area of cooperation with Mozambique was economic and social development, with the aim of reducing poverty. “Our biggest contribution is in areas that drive economic and social development,” he noted.
