Africa’s second-largest oil exporter may turn to the IMF amid oil price slump
In January of this year, the dam of the Córrego do Feijao mine, located in Brumandinho, broke causing this tragedy.
The mining company Vale and the public ministry of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais reached a conciliation agreement on Monday with relatives of the victims of the Brumandinho tragedy. The company will pay a total of 700,000 reais, equivalent to a little more than 186,000 dollars, to the spouse, partner, son, mother or father of those who lost their lives.
So far, 248 bodies have been recovered according to the fire department and 22 are still missing. In January of this year, the dam of the Córrego do Feijao mine, located in Brumandinho, broke causing this tragedy.
The agreement is part of the Public Civil Action phase that the company follows after the tragedy. According to Agencia Brasil, a state media, in the case of the brothers of the victims, they will receive as compensation a total of 150,000 reais, almost 40,000 dollars. Also, Vale committed to guarantee job stability for three years to all employees who were in work the day the dam broke.
