Bottled nitrogen leaks on Maputo-Nampula LAM flight

Mozambique Airlines (LAM) has reported that compressed nitrogen leaked from bottles during flight TM 462 from Maputo- to Nampula yesterday morning.

According to a statement from LAM quoted by Notícias, the flight was carrying passengers and cargo including bottled nitrogen, which is considered dangerous but acceptable in commercial aviation.

When the hold was opened in Nampula, it was found that some of the compressed gas had leaked. Following procedure, firefighters were mobilized but did not need to take action.

Once normal ventilation was re-established in the hold, unloading resumed and operations returned to normal.
