CMOC's IXM declares force majeure on cobalt deliveries from Congo
Former President Ian Khama has warned of a ‘high possibility’ that his ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) could lose next year’s general elections.According to a report in The Voice newspaper on Thursday, the 65-year-old former soldier appears to have lost confidence in the party his father helped found.
“We are not in a good position right now. Where we are as a party is bad, we should be in a better place” Khama was quoted as saying.
He added that “if you look at the last by-elections, we have been losing wards that belong to us. It is worrying.” Khama said
The party’s primary elections slated for 11 August are also likely to cause a serious strife within the party, he warned.
He also warned that he may not support the BDP in the general elections should the government introduce programmes and policies that “I cannot support as a member of the party which would then affect my support for the party.”
