More than 180,000 citizens in Maputo province will benefit from the new 12 km road between Ntsivene and Mukhatine, work on which started yesterday.
The project, valued at more than 500 million meticais, will be implemented in two phases, the first of which started yesterday (05-03) under the auspices of Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Jõao Machatine.
In a conversation with the prospective beneficiaries of the project, João Machatine recalled that the work makes good on promises made by President Filipe Nyusi during his visit on November 23 of last year.
The minister explained that work had been delayed by the start of the rainy season, but that the first phase would be concluded in the next six months. Beneficiaries are broadly satisfied with the project and say that the infrastructure will address the main challenges they now face.
Intaka MoU
One benefit of the first phase is expected to be increasing interest in the 5,000-unit housing estate project in the Intaka neighbourhood.
Allied to the benefit of the access route, the government, through the Fund for Housing Promotion (FFH), yesterday signed an agreement with Henan Guoji Imobiliária, the managing entity, for the resumption of the Intaka project, currently in abeyance due to low levels of demand.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, who revealed that, through the memorandum, which reduces by 90% the current monthly amortisation of the sale of the properties, the government had itself acquired an initial lot of 100 houses.
Only 10% of the projected 5,000 houses have so far been built, but the project revitalisation agreement is expected to boost interest in the acquisition of property there.
