Mozambique: Opening of the "Crescente Collection" 2025 Exhibition
The biography of the Mozambican musician Chico António is being launched as a children’s book edited by the Portuguese School of Mozambique in Maputo today.
“The story of João Gala-Gala” tells the adventures of a young man who travels from the countryside to the city and “collects sounds and harmonies with which he will later compose his songs”, the school announces.
The book will be the 13th volume in the school’s Portuguese Language Teaching Centre collection.
The launch ceremony today, at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, will feature the screening of a documentary about the creation of the book and the staging of the story by students from the Escola Completa Unidade 23, under the coordination of the Iverca Association, and will end with an autograph session.
The book was written by the musician together with writer Pedro Lopes, with illustrations by Luís Cardoso.
Chico António was born in 1958, and was a shepherd before learning the trumpet and music theory. He was a member of bands such as RM and Orquestra Star de Moçambique
