Mozambique: Parliament approves 2025-44 National Development Strategy - AIM
The Australian and Mozambican governments have recently approved the appointment of Mr Blake Gray as the new Honorary Consul in Mozambique from 1 March 2016. As a businessman, Mr Gray has strong connections within the Mozambican business community. He has lived in Maputo for many years and speaks fluent Portuguese.
Australia and Mozambique have a growing trade relationship with several Australian companies already established there, particularly in the emerging mining sector, In 2015, two way trade between Australia and Mozambique amounted to MZN15.5 billion (AUD452 million).
Australia continues to play a role in helping to address human resource development needs in Mozambique through its Australia Awards Scholarships program. Since 1999 over 350 Mozambicans have studied in Australia under the program. The program is specifically designed to ensure that Mozambique is well placed to be able to take full and sustainable advantage of its significant natural resources.
A large part of Mr Gray’s role will be to provide consular assistance to the diverse Australian community and to promote Australia’s political and commercial interests in Mozambique.
