A major fire struck part of the medical storage facility in the town of Quelimane, Zambézia, in the early morning hours.
Firefighters from the National Public Service fled to the scene but, because the water was not enough to quell the flames, the firefighters of the Airports of Mozambique in Quelimane were also called.
The fire started shortly after 1AM and by 3AM the firemen were trying to quell the flames.
The reasons that have caused the fire are unknown, but firefighters presume that a short circuit is at its source.
The presence of the Airports of Mozambique firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the place in the warehouse where large quantities of medicines destined to hospitals throughout the province are stored.
Meanwhile, the provincial director of Health in Zambézia, Hidayat Kassim, said this morning that in terms of losses of office supplies and some vaccines, the sector lost more than three million meticais.
The governor of Zambézia, Abdul Razak, lamented the damage caused by the fire in the province’s only provincial medical wharehouse. Razak draws attention to state institutions in relation to keeping quality electrification and fire extinguishers.
