The Beluluane Industrial Park in Maputo province will get an electricity supply quality upgrade when a project to strengthen and modernise the local transmission and distribution network is implemented.
A financing agreement governing the donation by the German government was signed in July last year, and includes the construction of a new electric substation in the Mahoche area and the rehabilitation of the existing one in the industrial park.
Connection between the two substations is planned, as well as the rehabilitation of the existing distribution network currently, including the replacement of transformers, according to a communique from Mozambique Electricity (EDM), which has initiated the tender process.
When the project is complete, Beluluane Industrial and Commercial Park will have an estimated energy supply capacity of 200 Megawatts, attracting more tenants to the park. More than 5,000 families in Mavoco and nearby areas will also benefit.
EDM chairman Mateus Magala said that the new substation would attract more companies, and generate revenue for the state and jobs.
He explained that improving the energy supply in Beluluane was identified as a priority because the area hosts the biggest industrial park in Maputo province, with significant industrial and other projects requiring a reliable energy supply.
