Funding cuts put lives at stake in Mozambique - OCHA

Belgium is to support the Mozambique health sector in the amount of 1.7 billion meticais over the next five years. The sum was announced yesterday after a meeting between the Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, and the minister-president of the Flanders region of Belgium.
The talks between President Nyusi and the Geert Bourgeois took place behind closed doors, but the Flanders minister-president told journalists afterwards that he was in Mozambique at the invitation of the head of state and that cooperation between the Flanders region and the Mozambican state dated back to 2002.
Prior to meeting President Nyusi, Geert Bourgeois signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health, where he pledged to continue supporting Mozambique.
