A total of 732 people had been screened for coronavirus screening in the city of Beira by yesterday. Checks were conducted at the international airport and in the port of the capital of Sofala province, central Mozambique.
The screening started on the 27 January and, so far, no case of the disease has been detected.

According to statements by the head of public health in Sofala province, Graciana de Jesus, 503 people were screened at the airport and 229 at the maritime border yesterday.
Passengers are checked for raised temperature and coughing, among other symptoms.
De Jesus revealed that seven of the travellers were from China, but showed no symptoms of coronavirus, and were allowed to go to their respective homes.
“Once no abnormal situation was identified with passengers from countries where there are already cases of the disease, they were instructed to fill in a form and give their addresses, so that the technical teams already in place can visit in 14 days,” she explained.
Beira Central Hospital is ready
Beira Central Hospital (HCB) spokesman Bonifácio Cebola meanwhile said that his institution was ready for any individuals showing coronavirus symptoms.
“We started training and giving lectures to personnel from different sectors in order to create basic response conditions. So, in case of suspected coronavirus, we will start off with the necessary care,” he said.
Tents have been put up in the HCB atrium for adults suspected of having the disease, while children will be hospitalised in an isolated section of the paediatric ward.
Cebola said that there were already 20 beds set aside for coronavirus patients. Any individual thought to have the disease at either the airport or the port would be transferred to one of these locations immediately.
