TechnoServe, a nonprofit organisation working on economic development, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its presence in Mozambique at the Southern Sun Hotel last Thursday in an event attended by various stakeholders in the field.
In addition to celebrating 20 years in Mozambique, TechnoServe took the opportunity to share experiences and discuss opportunities for future investments and partnerships that could have lasting impact on global growth and poverty reduction.
TechnoServe’s Managing Director in Mozambique, Jane Grob, led a panel discussion with Barclays Mozambique chairperson Luísa Diogo, Executive Director of the JFS Group Francisco Ferreira dos Santos, chairman of Novos Horizontes Andrew Cunningham, and the former President of AICAJU, Carlos Costa.
Barclays Bank chairperson Luísa Diogo began her contribution by highlighting the main factors that motivated Barclays’ partnership with TechnoServe.
“Barclays Bank Mozambique is convinced that the Mozambican economy will only have great results if agriculture is successful. Experience, knowledge, technology and results in Mozambique and in other parts of the world are some of the main reasons for our joining TechnoServe. The results from the cashew, chicken and banana areas are some of the evidence that they really know what they are doing, and because Barclays likes to join the best, and it is worth recognising the effort during these 20 years in the country,” she said.
Diogo said TechnoServe was a successful institution whose principles were part of their day-to-day operations and, above all, complied with government policies. She also noted that TechnoServe was an organisation of its word since, when it was established in Mozambique in 1998, it “made no false promises”.
“What TechnoServe did, when it arrived in 1998, was to apply for authorisation to work and we, of course, granted the necessary licenses, but we never imagined that they could achieve such good results in the cashew area and always focused on reducing poverty in Mozambique,” the Barclays PCA said, concluding that “celebrating TechnoServe is celebrating Mozambican results”.
