Mozambique: Opening of the "Crescente Collection" 2025 Exhibition

The governor of the Mozambican central bank, Rogério Zandamela, yesterday inaugurated the Bank of Moçambique Museum, at the Bank’s auto silo facility, in its Maputo headquarters, The museum will serve to “preserve and enhance the institutional memory” of the regulator.
“The establishment of this museum involved research, the collection of information and exchange of experience with national and international entities, culminating in the production of documents and collection of images and objects from the historical path of the bank’s activities,” Rogério Zandamela declared during the opening ceremony.
The Bank of Mozambique Museum covers five thematic areas, which deal with the evolution of means of payment in Mozambique, the history of the central bank and the metical, the technological evolution of banking activity in Mozambique, as well as the genesis of the gold trade in Africa in general, and in Mozambique in particular.
The space also houses an art gallery with permanent and temporary exhibitions, an auditorium, a shop and a cafeteria, from which the Metical Monument can be appreciated.
In addition to examples of all the coins that have been used in Mozambique since colonial times, the museum’s collection comprises paintings by various artists, with the highlight going to works by the iconic Mozambican artist Malangatana.
“The museum comprises five thematic areas, which provide a historical, technical-scientific and artistic vision of our country,” Zandamela explained.
The inauguration of the Bank of Mozambique Museum coincided with the celebration of the institution’s 48th anniversary on May 17th.
