Doctors at Mozambique's largest hospital give the government 30 days to avert strike

Homeless families, destroyed homes and classrooms are the aftermath of the bad weather that hit the city and the province of Maputo last Friday.
A survey by the National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC) indicates that Moamba district was the most affected, with 359 houses damaged, 45 ofn them totally destroyed. And at least five minor injuries were attended to in the Sabie health centre, while a child reported missing was found alive under a bed where he had taken shelter.
In addition to the damaged homes, about 65 hectares of various crops have been given up as lost, 15 destroyed by flooding and 50 by hail and strong winds. Six medium-voltage power transmission poles were felled, interrupting power supplies.
A team from the Provincial Technical Council for Disaster Management was deployed to help local government survey the damage and support those affected. Fifteen shelter kits, five family tents and five bales of second-hand clothing were distributed to distressed families.
In Manhiça, 3 de Fevereiro, Josina Machel Ilha and Manhiça village itself were worst affected. So far, the INGC has recorded the destruction of 16 classrooms, 11 teachers’ homes, two administrative blocks and 10 bathrooms.
The INGC also recorded the partial destruction of a water supply system at the village headquarters of Magude district.
Technical teams have so far failed to reach the town of Nwanbzuana, in the administrative post of Motaze due to the severing of access road by torrential rain and strong winds.
