An independent entity may be asked to assess sanitary conditions in the education sector prior to any return to the classrooms in Mozambique, National Director of School Health Arlinda Chaquisse has said.
The idea is to ensure that classes have a maximum of 25 students and a minimum of 1.5 metres between pupils, as recommended by health authorities, Chaquisse explained.
Speaking yesterday at the press conference to share information about the Covid-19, Chaquisse reaffirmed that classes would only resume once minimum conditions were created, including the provision of water in all secondary and primary schools and teacher training in basic Covid-19 knowledge and management.
“We are going to start with Grade 12 and teacher training. If there is a need for additional teachers, we anticipate overtime. We are in an emergency but we need to maintain our teaching and learning process,” she clarified, announcing that Grade 11 teachers may initially be taught to teach Grade 12 classes.
