U.S. aid suspension poses challenge to Mozambique's health sector: PM | Watch
The National Directorate of Civil Identification in Mozambique has announced that it has suspended the granting of Mozambican citizenship to foreigners, to allow for the reorganization of the process.
“The entities responsible for granting Mozambican nationality are being reorganized. The state is not granting citizenship to anyone,” NCID spokesman Alberto Sumbane is quoted by the daily O País as saying.
The suspension has been in force since January, it was revealed. Sumbane said that only applications on the basis of marriage to Mozambicans are being processed.
In an unrelated matter, Sumbane said that the directorate is concerned about the prevalence of forged identity documents, having last week confiscated 44 forged birth certificates in Zambezia and Maputo.
