Attorney general to sue Maputo City Council over Hulene tragedy

Maputo City Council will be held legally responsible by the Maputo city attorney’s office for the landslide at the Hulene rubbish dump on February 19, which killed 16 people and injured five more.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office says it is making enquiries to determine whether the responsibility will be criminal, civil or administrative.
Lawyer Amadeu Uqueio said that responsibility lay with the municipal council, as the manager of public administration. Uqueio said it was possible that there had been negligence on the part of the municipal council.
The public prosecutor has said that he had already alerted Maputo City Council to the imminent danger posed by the rubbish dump.
