Mozambique: At least seven killed by insurgent attacks in Cabo Delgado
The village of Miangalewa, in Muidumbe district, Cabo Delgado province, was attacked again on Wednesday night by armed men believed to belong to the group of insurgents terrorising Mozambican families in the region since October 2017, ‘Carta de Moçambique’ reports.
According to ‘Carta’ sources, the insurgents killed one person, in addition to looting food and goats and burning three houses, motorcycles and various other belongings.
The same sources report that the action was short-lived, as a result of the prompt intervention of the Defence and Security Forces, which, upon realising what was happening, opened fire on the group.
Miangalewa is an important commercial and agricultural hub, often visited by producers from other parts of the province, particularly Macomia, Mocímboa da Praia and Mueda.
