A 29-year-old man is being held in the cells of the 12th Police Station of Maputo city, accused of deviously substituting bank cards at automatic teller machines (ATMs) on Avenida da FPLM in Maputo.
The case was outlined by the spokeswoman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the capital, Marta Pereira, who stressed that, as a result of successfully holding offenders accountable, the corporation had not recorded similar episodes for some time.
“However, we recorded an occurrence of electronic fraud, in which citizens went to the ATM with the supposed aim of providing help to people with handling difficulties. The malefactors take advantage, swapping cards after seeing the victim’s code,” she reported.
Pereira said that the victim in this case noticed the manoeuvre and appealed to bank security for support, culminating in the arrest of one person by PRM agents.
