Edson Macuácua, the chairman of the first parliamentary commission, says that parliamentarians are working urgently to assess the proposal to revise Mozambique’s constitution.
“We hope that the commission will be able to complete its work as soon as possible and that we will be able to share the conclusions reached by the commission, bearing in mind that this is a matter of national interest and that it requires maximum responsibility, seriousness, serenity and concentration. So we are still focused and working on the matter,” Macuácua said.
Macuácua does not say when the commission will finish evaluating the proposal. “As soon as we finish the job, we will make an announcement,” he says.
Regarding the possibility of a referendum, given the sensitivity of the matters involved, like the direct election of presidents of municipalities, who under the revision proposed are now appointed by the municipal assemblies, Deputy Macuácua said that any statement would be issued only after the commission had completed its analysis of the proposed revision.
