UNESCO has initiated a training program to strengthen capacity to safeguard cultural heritage in Portuguese-speaking African Countries.
The project forms part of the 2003 Convention on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and is being funded by the government of Norway.
The Institute of Socio-Cultural Research (ARPAC) facilitated the training in Sao Tome and Principe, Cape Verde and Angola. The training program ended with a workshop in Guinea-Bissau last month which enabled participants to prepare requests for IGH fund assistance and nominations to the 2003 Convention cultural heritage lists.
ARPAC, in cooperation with UNESCO, is now organizing a Final Assessment seminar to evaluate the project, to take place in Maputo 09 to 13 May.
