Army command case: Defendants handed prison sentences from 10 to 16 years

Defendants involved in the theft, between 2010 and 2015, of 36 million meticais (about 1.2 million US dollars, at the exchange rate of the time) from the Army Command. were today handed sentences ranging from 10 to 16 years in prison, plus the payment of a 40 million meticais compensation to the State.

Ernesto Rufino and Abdul Ismael were both sentenced to 16 years in prison, Aníbal Sacatiza, was sentenced to 12 years and Elsa Chilaluque to 10 years in prison. These defendants were military officers.

Judge Salomão Manhiça also sentenced civilians Guilhermina Macaringue and Ussene Ismael to 15 years in prison, Monica Simango and Sónia Cossa to 11 years and six months and acquitted defendant Sara Calima.
