Two heavily armed men robbed a customer about to deposit money at the Millennium Bim Prestige bank branch at the intersection of Avenida da Independência and Avenida 24 de Julho in Tete on Tuesday afternoon.
The customer arrived at the bank in a Toyota Fortuner and sent the person accompanying him with the briefcase containing the money into the bank while he looked for parking space.
Eye witnesses report that, as the man was about to enter the bank, two robbers appeared, intimidated passers-by with a machine gun, and discreetly ordered their target, at pistol-point, to surrender the briefcase.
After taking possession of the briefcase, the duo got into a grey Toyota Runx and fled at speed along Avenida 24 de Julho in the direction of the Municipal Council building.
In a desperate attempt to recover the money, the client and his escort sped off in pursuit of the armed gang, but without success.
This is the second time in less than two months that the bank has registered a robbery of this kind. It is known that the customer involved in the first incident lost around six million meticais.
