Mozambique: Public prosecutor opens 742 post-election protest crime cases

Seven people were shot dead at the Ulumbi Administrative Post in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado by an armed group on Sunday, local sources told Lusa.
The sources said that the victims were in a passenger transport vehicle which was blocked and then burned, the victims being shot during the confusion.
Sunday’s attack is the third in the Ulumbi Administrative Post since armed groups started carrying out acts of violence in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, since October 2017.
In the wake of the attacks, people have barricaded roads and are holding demonstrations at the Palma District headquarters, local sources said.
The attacks have been carried out away from the Afungi peninsula, where oil companies that will be processing natural gas and where work is progressing normally.
At the end of last month, the Mozambican Public Prosecutor’s Office added five more names to the list of about 200 people on trial accused of being involved in the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado.
