Portuguese energy company EDP announced on Thursday that it would go ahead with the third edition of the A2E Fund, providing €500,000 to finance clean energy projects in five African countries, including Mozambique and Angola.
According to a statement issued by EDP, this third edition “is aimed at profit or non-profit entities and includes five African countries: Mozambique, Nigeria, Malawi and, for the first time, Angola and Rwanda.
The A2E Fund guarantees financial support of between €25,000 and €100,000 for each project.
The application period started on Thursday, 26 November (applications are welcome on https://www.edp.com/pt-pt/fundo-de-acesso-a-energia#3a-edicao), until 10 January 2021.
The results will be known in April 2021 and the organisers of the applications will then have to implement the projects within a year.
With this renewal of the A2E Fund, “EDP reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and the fight against energy poverty, which still affects more than a billion people,” the company said.
Also according to EDP, since it was launched in 2018, that funding programme has received “more than 260 applications and provided around €1 million to support projects that, through renewable energies, contribute to the social, economic and environmental development of communities in remote areas.
