The National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP) on Friday transferred Aníbal António dos Santos Júnior, better known as Anibalzinho, from the Maximum Security Penitentiary Establishment (commonly known as the ‘BO’) to the Maputo Preventive Penitentiary Establishment, former Cadeia Civil.
A well-connected source told ‘Carta de Moçambique’ that Anibalzinho, who was involved in the murder of journalist Carlos Cardoso on November 22, 2000, was moved from the BO because his life was at risk there.
“He could be killed at any time,” said the source, recalling that Zófimo Muiane, who was sentenced to a long prison sentence for the murder of Valentina Guebuza, was transferred in the same way.
Sentenced to 30 years in prison in January 2006, Anibalzinho has already escaped on three occasions, once from the Police of the Republic of Mozambique Command in Maputo city, and twice from the Maximum Security prison itself.
