Angola’s Sonangol is in talks with oil majors about deploying two new oil rigs it commissioned from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in 2013, the state firm said on Monday.
Sonangol said it was in talks with Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP, Eni and Total about leasing the rigs to help boost exploration and production off the coast of the southwest African nation.
The two rigs, the first to be owned by Sonangol, will enter service soon, the company said. Angola is an OPEC member and vies with Nigeria as Africa’s biggest oil producer.
