The support of the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the elaboration of the ninth volume on the General History of Africa, was praised on Monday in Luanda.
According to the ambassador of Angola to UNESCO, Diakumpuna Sita José, the support of the Angolan statesman was important to elaborate the ninth volume of the General History of Africa, whose scientific committee is gathered in Luanda.
Sita Jose was speaking on the sidelines of the opening ceremony by the Vice-President of the Republic, Manuel Vicente, of the 4th meeting of the International Scientific Council of the ninth volume on the General History of Africa.
He stated that the 4th volume seeks to correct several shortcomings in terms of historical facts because the previous eight have been written in the European vision.
The official recalled that Angola, after a meeting between the Head of State with UNESCO’s director general, financed with about USD 900,000 the organization to support the production of a new version that would include the missing chapters, mainly covering the history of African diaspora, which is not in the other volumes.
“Essentially this new volume will be translated into Portuguese for educational use from primary school to university, through the use of new teaching methodologies and techniques, especially for trainers and scientists”, he said.
He stated that in essence, this volume will help its integration in the school curriculum and standardize teaching of the history of the continent.
